Takoma Park, Maryland

Within the metropolitan area of Washington DC - on the Maryland side - is the suburban city of Takoma Park, whose history goes back to 1883. This city is known for its small-town charm, with its locally owned shops, independent restaurants, and 11 different parks and trails, where the local residents highly appreciate the mix of outdoor recreation along with community-oriented events.

As a side note, there is one particular novelist who created a powerful story which helped inspire Dennis Avelar’s dream to write his own novel. That author is none other than Katherine Paterson, whose (arguably) most notable work was inspired by events that occurred in Takoma Park. This goes to show that this inspiration for greatness can derive from anywhere, and we certainly hope that The Blue Q can continue to further explore the limitless possibilities of literacy for the people of Takoma Park!
