Burke County Public Library
Morganton, North Carolina
This is the Morganton Public Library, one of three branches of the Burke County Public Library.
It came to us as a complete surprise when we discovered something unique about Morganton. Roughly 20% of this city - located in the foothills of western North Carolina - is comprised of Guatemalans. This means that, at the very least, 1 out of every 5 residents of Morganton are familiar with the resplendent quetzal and are knowledgeable of the importance of this special bird.
More importantly, The Blue Q can help connect the many people and diverse cultures of this city in ways we did not think were possible. In addition, Burke County thrives on arts, culture, and the untamed natural beauty that exists all year round. We see no better example of the perfect combination between nature, literacy, education, and culture, and as such we could not be happier to know The Blue Q is available for local residents.

- What is the book about?
It is so much more than this, but there is a brief description: The natural balance of the Earth is in danger. The beings responsible for the wellness of our planet were forced to follow the selfish desires of a single, powerful leader, who is once again willing to destroy it all in order to destroy that which was taken from the natural ecosystem.
- For what ages is this book appropriate?
The Blue Q was purposely written to be enjoyed by readers of all ages. This book is intended for young adults, and we primarily recommend it for readers age 12 and up.

- How does the book’s availability at the Burke County Public Library help the Mission of The Blue Q?
We are extremely fortunate in that we discovered a small city in North Carolina that has such a large Guatemalan population. From the moment we realized that there was an opportunity to be a part of this town, we did not hesitate to reach out to the local library and learn ways in which we could connect with the Guatemalan (and non-Guatemalan) community in Morganton. The Blue Q serves as the perfect way for various cultures and various languages to come together and learn more about one another - about their favorite and culturally relevant birds, about their traditions and favorite foods - and can even utilize the primary theme of the novel to discover more ways in which to keep their community clean. Morganton enables us to further achieve every aspect of the Mission of The Blue Q, and as such we are so honored to be so openly welcomed in this city.
