Lafayette Public Library
Lafayette, Lousisiana
The Blue Q is available and in circulation at the Main (Downtown) branch of the Lafayette Public Library.
Our journey has taken us to more astounding places than we knew existed. The Blue Q has seen massive mountains, national parks, mighty rivers, cities, the plains and even lakes the sizes of oceans, but at long last it was time to visit “Cajun Country”!
The Blue Q circled southbound and traversed through the Gulf of Mexico and found a passageway that led up the Vermillion River and towards its next home: Lafayette, Louisiana! Previously recognized as one of the happiest cities in the United States, we quickly discovered that Lafayette is a city with combined Spanish, French, and early American roots. There is so much to see and do while here, but no attraction is greater than Lafayette’s unique cuisine. The abundance of cultural experiences made this city the perfect location for The Blue Q to discover, and we cannot wait to get to know the people and to learn how we can be a part of the community.
*BONUS: We simply cannot mention the name of this city without thinking of our favorite character from one of our favorite musicals.

- How does the book’s availability at the Lafayette Public Library System help the Mission of The Blue Q?
What began in 1897 as a Women’s Book Club has evolved into an expansive public library system whose mission is dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life for their community. The origins of the Lafayette Public Library System show us that it is truly possible to begin an idea at a minor level and create an impactful, community-based public entity that provides high quality services to meet the expectations of those who want, need, and deserve them. The sheer diversity of Lafayette almost guarantees the opportunity for lifelong learning and furthering education, as residents can discover and rediscover the fascinating aspects of how such dissimilar ethnicities created a culture all its own. Our mission values the joy of such diversity, with the expectation that we see the benefits of our differences and utilize our various forms of knowledge to help one another. The fact that this city is also near a 70-mile river is also a testament to the need to address any environmental concerns that will have profound effects in the future, for it is imperative that we always support and preserve cities such as Lafayette.
