Alamosa Public Library
Alamosa, Colorado
A beautiful view of the Alamosa Public Library, located at the City Hall Complex.
When author Dennis Avelar initially wrote The Blue Q, even in its earliest draft, there was one specific body of water that was of particular importance to the story. The Rio Grande, a mighty river that has a plethora of history for birds and people alike, is the setting of a key scene in the narrative of The Blue Q. So imagine our delightful surprise when we discovered that the Alamosa Public Library, which is located within a few yards of this river, honored us by adding The Blue Q to their collection.
Alamosa, CO, is the perfect location for anyone who wishes to have the “Colorado Experience”. Located at the southwestern part of the state, Alamosa’s connection to nature drives the aesthetic beauty of a small town that offers far more than what most would expect. Alamosa is also the gateway to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve; as such, the people of Alamosa are no strangers to the importance of conservation, which ties perfectly with the message (and the mission) of The Blue Q.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the book about?
It is so much more than this, but there is a brief description: The natural balance of the Earth is in danger. The beings responsible for the wellness of our planet were forced to follow the selfish desires of a single, powerful leader, who is once again willing to destroy it all in order to destroy that which was taken from the natural ecosystem.
- For what ages is this book appropriate?
The Blue Q was purposely written to be enjoyed by readers of all ages. This book is intended for young adults, and we primarily recommend it for readers age 12 and up.
- Where can I find the book in the collection of the Alamosa Public Library?
You can find The Blue Q: The World As I See It in the Teen/Young Adult section of the library. Availability details are posted in the online collection catalogue.
- Is the Spanish edition of the novel available at the Alamosa Public Library?
Yes! The Spanish edition - El Quetzal Azul: El Mundo Desde El Cielo - can also be checked out of the Alamosa Public Library! Please visit El Quetzal Azul page for details.
- How does the book’s availability at the Alamosa Public Library help the Mission of The Blue Q?
The mission of the Alamosa Public Library clearly states that their purpose is to inform, educate, and culturally enrich the population of Alamosa County and the San Luis Valley…to encourage lifelong learning, knowledge through self-education, and the joy of reading. The Mission of The Blue Q oftentimes connects us to places we did not know existed, and it is not until later that we learn how our mission connects to a greater whole. We do not believe that it is by coincidence that the Alamosa Public Library is located just off the shores of the Rio Grande, although we were surprised by this much after we discovered this library. If The Blue Q could help enrich any aspect of the library’s mission, and be a catalyst for the enrichment for all citizens of Alamosa and of the San Luis Valley, then we cannot think of a better location for The Blue Q to call home.
- Will I be able to purchase a copy of the book at the upcoming event at the Alamosa Public Library?
